Have you ever come across a figurine, that seemed to be different, but you knew for sure you already have this smurf character in your collection? I have experienced that many times. Obvious things like real severe colour variations are found quite often. Many times this is related to a reproduction of the figurine. Sometimes it is just human error.
Then there are the figurines that are different in shape from others of the same kind. Those are mould variations. Sometimes you'll have to look really close to notice, sometimes it just jumps at you.
Those smurfy irregularities will be examined on this page.
Drummer-Variations
I have come across colour and mould variations in the Drummer, No. 2.0009. The original figurine has a red drum with yellow markings, a black edge around top and bottom, and red tips on white sticks. His knees are bend as if sitting, the bottom of the drum and feet make one smooth surface.
The other drummer has a black drum with red markings, a yellow edge around top and bottom, and all yellow sticks. He seems as if standing behind the drum. The bottom of the drum and his feet are two different surfaces.

Angry Variations
This is one of the "easy-to-smurf" mould variations!
The original figurine is small in size. His arms are stretched out, but not as much, his feet both are flat, and his ears don't stand out sideways.
The other one is noticeably larger in size. His arms are stretched out wide, his head is wide, his nose points up high, one foot is stepping forward.Both moulds come with red eyes and either black teeth or red teeth.

Shiver Variations
This is simple to explain. He comes with a red scarf or with a yellow scarf. The red scarf is the original version. Not only that both scarf colour variations also come as mould variations. One with a wide head, the other one with a narrow head.

Lute Variations
The original figurine has a red lute, the variations come with either an orange-creme coloured lute, a yellow lute, or an orange lute.

Astro Variations
There is a Bully and a Schleich mould of Astro. Bully's Astro has both feet flat, is wearing a red tie and his arms are stretched out. His red tongue is located in the center of his mouth. He has a smaller hat and black eyebrows. His ears are larger than the Schleich figurine's and also the helmet.
The Schleich mould has the right foot pointing up, wears no tie, one arm is up and one finger is pointing, the other is hand is down. He has bigger eyes, the red tongue is to the right and has no eyebrows. His hat is larger than the Bully figurine's.

Brainy Variations
The first obvious variation is in the glasses. He comes with black or red glasses. Further, there is a difference in size between the Schleich mould and the Hong Kong mould. The Hong Kong mould is bigger and his feet are longer. Also the hat of the Hong Kong version has a larger tip.

Papa Smurf Variations
Again we find a size difference between the Schleich mould and the Hong Kong, Wallace Berrie mould. Also the red colour of the Schleich figurine is lighter. The ear on the Schleich mould is better defined, and the feet are spaced further apart.
Sunbather Variations
There are some real nice colour variations. He comes in differently coloured swim trunks. Red and white stripes, red and black stripes, green and black stripes, yellow and black stripes. It is definitely a challenge to find all four.

Handy Variations
The original version is only holding a wrench and not wearing overalls. There is a version with orange overalls and a black wrench, a version with light green overalls and a light grey wrench, and a dark green version with a dark grey wrench. Here are some:

Smurfette Variations
The Bully mould has long eyelashes, one hand is touching the yellow hair, the other hand is on the dress. She is wearing full wedge heels. The most common Schleich mould is smaller, dress is raised in the front, one hand on dress, the other hand spread to the side. And another major variation is a kind of plump looking Smurfette. She has dark yellow hair, flat shoes, one arm stretched sideways, inside of hand facing down, the other arm tilted sideways, inside of hand facing forward, thumb up. This one could be a fake. The markings only say copyright peyo. I have also seen some with red shoes, which could also simply have been painted over top of the originally white shoes. One variation of the Smurfette with long eyelashes has pink pokadots on the dress.

Sleepwalker Variations
Sleepwalker has some obvious colour variations. He comes with a red, yellow or green pompom.

Hefty Variations
He first came without a shirt, and later reproductions are wearing an either white, green, yellow or red shirt. Here are some:

The original Crying has a white handkerchief, others have either a light or dark yellow handkerchief.

Emperor Variations
There are many variations of emperor. There are different colours in the crown, the robe, the ring, the shoes. He could be made out of different colour moulds as well. Have a look at all the differences in the picture.

Conjuror Variations
There are three different versions of conjuror. His hat comes in grey and black, the handkerchief comes in different shades of green.

Angler Variations
There are a number of different versions of Angler. One difference is that the fishing rod can be a fixed part of the mould or a removable piece. The solid brown and the solid yellow rod are removable. The brown tone of the fishing rod varies as well. Here are some examples.

Card Player Variations
There are a number of different versions of Card player. The print on the cards varies. There was also a promotional Card Player by the German company ASS (German for ACE). It comes either with the letters ASS or just with the logo. Here are some examples.

Pirate Variations
There are some colour variations of Pirate. He comes with a red or yellow belt. Also the handle of the sword comes in a bright or dark yellow. The pirate symbol is embossed on the back of the hat. The yellow belt version has the pirate symbol outlined in black.

Rock'n Roll Variations
There are colour and mould variations of Rock'n Roll. Pretty obvious are the colour differences of the guitars going from a bright orange to a dark red with the strings being beige, yellow or brown. If you have a closer look at the mould you will find that the distance between the feet various. Some figures have the feet much further apart than others.

CB Variations
There are colour and mould variations of CB Smurf. He comes with a silver coloured CB or a black. The cable can be black or silver. The microphone can be brown, black or silver. Headphones can be white and silver, black and silver. The antenna of the cb is removable in the black cb with the long antenna.

Swimmer Variations
There are colour and mould variations of Swimmer. The swim ring comes in diffent shades of red and yellow. The swim trunks are orange or yellow. There is also a difference in the mould. Some have a wider head with the ears standing out and the mouth not showing, others have a slim face with the mouth showing.

Flower Variations
Flower smurf actually comes with different flowers. The material of the flower varies and the way it is attached to the figurine. There is a cloth flower, a velvet flower, a plastic flower, a nylon flower. It can be glued on, stuck on with a pin with a white head or with a pin with a yellow head. There is apparently also a white flower. Here are some of the variations.

Naughty Variations
Naughty smurf is another one that comes with a wide or a narrow face. The colour of the tongue is bright red or dark red.

Tailor Variations
Tailor smurf comes with a yellow or with an orange coloured jacket that he is fixing up. There is a patch on the jacket. Its shape is either square or round. The colour of the threat is either red or black.

First-Aid Variations
First-Aid smurf comes with different colour first-aid kits. There is a white one with a red cross on it, a yellow one with a red cross on it, a greenish-brown kit without the red cross. Further there are some promotional figurines with stickers saying ASB (German Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund). The figurine also has a logo on the chest.

Nurse comes with different colour aprons and syringes. Her watch also comes either inblack or silver.

Lion Tamer Variations
Lion Tamer smurf comes with different colour drums, whips and trunks. The drum can be green with black skin or yellow with red skin. The trunks can be bright yellow with black dots or dark yellow with black dots. The whip comes in bright yellow, beige and dark yellow.

Jogger smurf comes in different colour shirts. It can be either red and white or orange and white.

Fieldhockey smurf comes with different colour cloth. The original is wearing a green shirt and greenish brown trunks and green socks. Captain Variations
Papa Captain comes with different colour uniforms and telescopes. The original is wearing a white hat, white jacket and red pants holding a golden telescope. Then there are two versions wearing blue hats and jackets. One comes with white pants, the other one with red pants. The white pants comes with a yellow telescope, the red pants with a golden one. Postman smurf comes with different envelopes. The original has a heart and is supposed to be a love letter. Then there is a variation with a christmas letter.
Original Postman Variation of Postman Besides the variations mentioned there are quite a few differences in size. A bigger hat here, a wider face there, a shorter or taller figurine. Also, I am not going into details of different shades of blue. For example, most Hong Kong figurines have a much darker blue than the Germany figurines.
