In recent years Schleich has added many brand new smurf figurines to the smurf line. Others were discontinued. The following provides information about the newest additions from 1996 until 2004 and the true blue friends that are no longer in production. Discontinued Figurines: There are twelve Smurfs being retired. They are all of the beautiful Smurf Marching Band from 2002. Also, the Smurf Western Playset is now out of Production.

For some reason it was decided to leave Schoolbench Smurfette in production, which breaks up the School Theme Set. This could be related to the School Super Playset, which is still in production and contains all of the School Theme Supersmurfs plus accessories. So if you didn't get those Supersmurfs yet, you can purchase the School Super Playset instead.

No older figurines were put back into production in the year 2001! The total line of individual smurfs was reduced down to 50 instead of the usual 100. If you do the math that means that 60 figurines were discontinued in 2001. The reason for that is that many of the older moulds are badly worn. So we sadly had to say goodbye to many of our blue friends.

This is a very special edition for the new Y2K! Schleich has done a great job at that one!
You just have to love him!

This figurine was supposed to be available for the North American Market. However, due to it being a very limited edition (2460 for North America!!!!!!), and only 1200 of the smaller version keychain, they were oversold before they even made it here. Also, unfortunately the keychains are very hard to find mint, due to an extremely poor packing method by the Schleich factory!

Remember the older Smurf Playsets? Here are three of the six models available in 1998. 

There have been some changes to the above playsets. The snailset comes with part of the old mushroom playset. The Fence playset now has the Gate and Flower added to it. And last but not least, the well comes with the garden furniture and Flower. For the first time ever, the figurines are included! The Westernset, Gargamel's Lab, and Smurfettes Bedroom are also still being produced.

The same Baby figurine was used in the promotional set of Quick Restaurants in Belgium in 1996. It had the restaurants logo stamped on the head. It was a variation of the Supersmurf "Smurf in Bathtub".
