An educational toy can be anything that develops learning skills and provides knowledge. A few toys that children enjoy are organic stuffed animals, dolls, block-games, cars and wooden toys.
These toys are carefully designed and crafted to help shape young minds. Books, games, building blocks, trains, puzzles or even electronic games can be considered educational toys.

There are educational toys available on the market for all age groups. The age of the child is of foremost importance.
A one year old that has basic building blocks that have numbers or letters printed on them, will only shake or throw them, not understanding the potential for learning numbers or letters. That is a concept that is developed over time.

When children play, they are active, they manipulate objects and use all their senses to explore the object in front of them.
When a five-year-old child is given a train set, he or she starts assembling the track and the train, based on his/ her perception of how a train and track should look like.
Without this opportunity to act on the toy, and to explore it, the child will stagnate so it is important to the learning process to constantly provide the needed stimulus.
